BALI – A 60-year-old Dutch national identified by the initials MJR was found lying on a road inside the grounds of Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Hotel in Ungasan, South Kuta, Badung, Bali, on Saturday night, September 12, 2026.

Police said the man allegedly jumped from the fifth floor of the hotel. The incident reportedly occurred at around 10:14 p.m. WITA on Saturday.

Based on CCTV footage reviewed by investigators, MJR arrived at a corner of the corridor railing at around 10:10 p.m. He was seen raising a curtain before climbing over the barrier and standing on the outer wall. Moments later, he allegedly jumped from the fifth floor.

The fifth floor was estimated to be approximately 14 meters above the ground.

The incident was initially reported by a restaurant staff member after receiving information from a hotel guest that someone was lying on the road within the hotel premises.

I Nengah Arta Wijaya, 31, said he received the information at around 10:18 p.m. He then immediately contacted his supervisor before checking the location from an upper floor.

He confirmed that a person was lying on the ground below.

An ambulance from BIMC Nusa Dua Hospital subsequently arrived at the hotel and medical personnel examined the victim.

The Denpasar Police identification team found that MJR had suffered several injuries, including an abrasion on the right side of his abdomen, an injury to his right elbow and a fracture to his right wrist.

The victim was found lying on the road inside the hotel compound.

Denpasar Police Public Relations Section Head Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya confirmed that MJR died following the incident. His body was subsequently taken to Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar.

"According to hotel management, MJR had been staying at Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Hotel since August 16, 2026," I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said.

Hotel staff had reportedly asked him several times to settle his accommodation bill. However, he had allegedly not made any payment up to the time of the incident.

Police are handling the case and conducting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Dutch national.
