BALI – A violent assault involving workers at a villa construction project in Sawangan, Benoa, South Kuta, Badung, Bali, has turned fatal. Denpasar City Police have named six construction workers as suspects in the alleged group assault that left Adrianus Wungo dead after receiving medical treatment.
Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Pol Leonardo David Simatupang, S.I.K., M.H., said the suspects were identified after investigators from the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) and the South Kuta Police Criminal Investigation Unit examined witnesses, collected evidence and conducted a case review.
“Based on witness statements, the evidence obtained and the results of the case review, investigators have named six people as suspects,” Leonardo said.
The six suspects were identified by their initials as MA, BM, WH, M, MSA and MAF. Preliminary investigations indicate that each suspect allegedly had a different role in the assault against the victim.
MA allegedly struck the back of the victim's body. BM allegedly punched the victim in the stomach and stepped on his head. WH allegedly punched the victim in the stomach approximately three times.
Suspect M allegedly also punched the victim in the stomach approximately three times and stepped on his head. Meanwhile, MSA and MAF allegedly punched the victim in the face.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at around 11:30 p.m. WITA. Police said the incident began with a misunderstanding among workers staying at the project's workers' accommodation. The dispute escalated into a confrontation before allegedly developing into a group assault against Adrianus Wungo.
Initially, police detained 13 people believed to have knowledge of or links to the incident. Following further questioning and a case review, investigators determined that six of them had sufficient grounds to be named suspects.
Police also seized several items believed to be connected to the incident, including one knife, two pieces of metal, one concrete block, one bucket and one piece of wood. Investigators are still examining the specific connection between each item and the alleged assault.
“We are still investigating the role of each suspect, including the connection between the seized items and the incident. We are also examining the relationship between the violence suffered by the victim and his death based on medical and forensic examinations,” Leonardo explained.
Meanwhile, the other seven people who were initially detained are still being investigated. Police are assessing whether they had any criminal involvement based on the facts and evidence collected during the investigation.
Denpasar Police said the investigation is being conducted professionally and based on valid evidence, including witness statements, physical evidence, medical and forensic examination results, as well as other supporting evidence.
“This case is still under development. If the investigation uncovers evidence of involvement by other parties, we will follow it up in accordance with applicable laws,” Leonardo stressed.
The investigation remains ongoing, particularly regarding the individual roles of the six suspects and the medical and forensic findings concerning the circum stances surrounding Adrianus Wungo's death.
