BALI – Denpasar Police (Polresta Denpasar) has clarified reports concerning the handling of the case involving GS, who has been named a suspect in an alleged child violence and/or assault case. The clarification was issued following statements from the suspect’s legal counsel and aims to provide the public with complete, balanced and factual information regarding the investigation.
Through investigators from Unit IV of the Criminal Investigation Division (Sat Reskrim), Polresta Denpasar said it respects GS’s rights and those of his legal counsel, including the right to raise objections, receive legal assistance and pursue available legal mechanisms.
However, police said several points need to be clarified to prevent public misunderstanding regarding the sequence of events surrounding GS’s apprehension and subsequent legal process.
Head of Public Relations of Polresta Denpasar, Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, S.H., M.H., emphasized that GS was not initially arrested by Polresta Denpasar officers at his boarding house.
According to witness statements obtained by investigators, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at around 6:30 a.m. WITA, the family of the 16-year-old female victim, accompanied by several people, searched for GS after receiving information about his whereabouts.
GS was subsequently found at a boarding house in South Denpasar. Based on witness accounts, GS allegedly attempted to resist and escape when he was found. The people who secured him then tied his hands using adhesive tape.
“We need to emphasize that the act of securing and tying GS was not carried out by members of Polresta Denpasar,” said Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya.
GS was then brought to Polresta Denpasar by the victim’s family or representatives of the victim and handed over to police officers for further legal proceedings.
Police stressed the importance of distinguishing between the events that occurred before GS was handed over to policeand the legal actions subsequently taken by investigators after he arrived at Polresta Denpasar.
Therefore, reports suggesting that GS was initially arrested, transported and restrained by Polresta Denpasar officers at his boarding house do not correspond with the witness statements and investigation findings currently obtained by police.
GS's presence at Polresta Denpasar is connected to a police report concerning alleged violence against a 16-year-old girl.
The reported incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at around 2:00 a.m. WITA in Pemecutan Kelod, West Denpasar.
During questioning, the victim stated that GS allegedly committed physical violence by slapping and punching her in the face with a clenched fist.
As a result of the incident, the victim reportedly suffered bruising and swelling around her eye, as well as an injury above her left eyebrow. Meanwhile, during questioning by investigators, GS reportedly admitted to using both an open hand and a clenched fist to strike the victim in the face, causing her to fall.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division of Polresta Denpasar carried out a series of investigative measures, including questioning the complainant, the child victim, witnesses and GS.
Police also conducted a crime scene investigation, collected evidence and documents, and held a case review.
Based on the investigation, case review and evidence obtained, investigators subsequently named GS as a suspect in the alleged child violence and/or assault case in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Following the suspect determination and after considering the relevant legal requirements, investigators also detained GS.
GS is currently being held at the Polresta Denpasar detention facility for the purposes of the ongoing investigation.
Police emphasized that the determination of GS as a suspect and his detention were legal actions taken by investigators after an investigation had been conducted and based on evidence obtained during the process.
Regarding statements or complaints from GS concerning alleged violence against him, Polresta Denpasar said it remains open to investigating any allegations.
If GS believes that he has been the victim of a criminal offense, the matter can be formally reported and will be examined based on facts and available evidence.
The investigation may examine when and where the alleged incident occurred, who was allegedly involved, who witnessed it, GS's condition when he was first handed over to police, CCTV footage, documentation and medical examination results.
Likewise, if a complaint concerning alleged misconduct by police officers is submitted to the police Professional and Security Division (Propam), Polresta Denpasar said it fully respects the oversight mechanism and is prepared to provide the necessary data and information.
Polresta Denpasar stressed that the criminal investigation involving GS and any complaint filed by GS are two separate matters that must be assessed proportionally and examined based on the respective facts and evidence.
A complaint filed by the suspect does not automatically halt the investigation into the alleged violence against the child victim. At the same time, GS's status as a suspect does not remove his right to legal protection or his right to file a complaint if he believes his rights have been violated.
Police also said they respect the role of lawyers in providing legal defense to their clients. However, information presented to the public should consider the entire sequence of events so that actions allegedly carried out by other parties before GS was handed over to police are not mistakenly attributed to Polresta Denpasar officers.
“If an examination finds violations committed by police officers, they will certainly be processed according to the applicable regulations. Conversely, if the investigation finds no involvement of police officers in the alleged actions, that fact must also be presented objectively,” Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said.
GS remains a suspect and is being detained at the Polresta Denpasar detention facility, while investigators continue to complete the investigation.
Polresta Denpasar urged the public not to rush to conclusions based solely on statements from one side. The public is encouraged to allow investigators and internal oversight authorities to carry out their duties professionally, transparently and in accordance with the law.
